President

Lynn Foshee Reed is a mathematics instructor at Maggie L. Walker Governor ’ s School (MLWGS) in Richmond, Virginia. Before moving to Richmond in 1998, she taught mathematics at Virginia Tech for eight years. Lynn originates from southern Illinois, and she was a mathematics major at the University of Evansville (Indiana). She received both her Master of Arts and Master of Sciences in Mathematics from The Ohio State University. Reed earned her Gifted Education endorsement in 2002 and achieved National Board Certification in 2009, recertifying in 2019. During 2012 - 14, Lynn served as an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow with the National Science Foundation ’ s Office of Polar Programs. As part of her fellowship, she traveled to both polar regions and learned about many research projects taking place in the Arctic and Antarctica. Reed is a long time member of both the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Mathematical Association of America, and she is a current AP Reader for the AP Calculus examination.

Elementary School Representative

Tammy Sanford graduated from Radford University in 1986 with a B.S. in Business Management. After working as a pre - school teacher when her children were of age, she switched careers. Tammy joined the education community in 2003 after returning to school at JMU to obtain her teaching certification Pre - K through 3rd grade. She has taught 17 years with Staunton City Schools in third grade and Kindergarten. Currently in her fourth year as an instructional math coach at A.R. Ware Elementary in Staunton, she recently completed her master ’ s degree through VCU ’ s online cohort obtaining an Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies (MIS) Math and Science Teacher Leadership with a math specialist endorsement Kindergarten through 8th grade. She has been and is currently a member of NCTM, VCTM, and VACMS.

Middle School Representative

Lisa LoConte - Allen has taught for over 4 decades, in both private and public schools, including title one schools. She teaches Pre - Algebra and Algebra. Looking for new ways to teach math has been her focus. Lisa has a master ’ s degree in Education along with two endorsements from the state of Virginia: Middle School Education and Algebra. She is currently the Math Department Chair at her school. Lisa is on the board of the Tidewater Council of Teachers of Mathematics and on the board for VCTM. She presents workshops and staff development workshops in her district and on the state level.
