Attended the viewing for the late Theresa Meade of the Centreville Volunteer Fire Department. The viewing was held at DeMaine’s Funeral Home in Fairfax, Virginia. Ms. Meade, who was 85 at the time of her passing, was the very definition of the word “vivacious.” She was an international traveler who believed that while it was important to think globally, it was more important to act locally. As evidence of that philosophy, Ms. Meade served as a board member, trustee, life member, and volunteer in many organizations in the Northern Virginia area, including the Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program, the Girl Scouts of America, the Fairfax Station Railroad Museum, the Clifton Community Woman’s Club, the Dominion Valley Garden Club, the Fairfax County 4-H Program, the 4-H Extension Homemakers, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Centreville Volunteer Fire Department, the Ladies Auxiliary to the VSFA, the George Mason University Center for the Arts, the Wolf Trap

Figure 3 - The life and times of Theresa Meade, 85, of the Centreville VFD, were celebrated on February 7 and 8, 2019. Ms. Meade was a significant contributor not just to her local volunteer fire department, but to several great causes in Northern Virginia.

National Park for the Performing Arts, the Reston Community Center, the Bull Run Civil War Roundtable, the Udvar-Hazy Center of the National Air and Space Museum, the Fairfax County Board of Elections, the Glenverdant Homeowners’ Association, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church and Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church. I can attest that she was not just a member in these organizations; she was active and a contributor to all of them and to their successes. Ms. Meade was someone I could count on to attend training classes that we offered at our annual VSFA conventions and conferences, even though she was not a firefighter herself. She believed she had a responsibility as a member of both the auxiliary and the fire department to be able to share what she learned with other members, and to share lessons learned with the community at-large, too, which she did at the National Fire Prevention Week Open House events held at the Centreville VFD every year. She was an amazing woman and a great friend, and is missed by family, friends, and the many organizations with which she was affiliated.
