In the Ordination today, Bishop Karin is vested with the traditional symbols of her office: A Stole, Pectoral Cross, Ring, Cope, and Mitre. She is presented with a Crozier and a Bible. She will wear a Chasuble to celebrate Holy Eucharist. The Bishop’s Crozier has been carried by the Bishops of Southwestern Virginia since 1960. It was given to Bishop Marmion, third Bishop of our Diocese by the youth of Christ Church, Martinsville, in recognition of his work to integrate the diocese. The names of the bishops who have carried the crozier, including Bishop Karin, are engraved on it. The Rochet was given by St. Elizabeth’s, Roanoke, as a sending gift to celebrate her 8 ½ years of ministry among them. The Stole was given by +Karin’s friends Amy Gonzalez, Amy Feira, and Sarah Field. The Pectoral Cross was given by St. John’s Episcopal Church in Odessa TX, the Episcopal Diocese of Northwest Texas, Frank Deaderick, and Lacliffta Newby, +Karin’s sending parish and diocese. The Ring was given by Susan Russell and Carol Reichert, family of +Karin.
