DIG IN A HANDS-ON GUIDE TO GARDENING SUCCESS Location: Recreation Community Garden – 1525 Roanoke St. (beside of Dude’s Drive-In), Christiansburg Minimum: 5 Maximum: 12 Co-Sponsored CDPR/MONT. CO. 4-H PROGRAMS Additional Information: Join us for a hands-on gardening workshop where youth learn the essentials of growing and nurturing their own garden! This workshop will cover everything from selecting the right plants to soil preparation, planting techniques and what it needs to thrive, and maintaining a healthy garden. This program will meet outside so please wear comfortable clothing/tennis shoes and bring a hat. All supplies are included. Water and snacks are provided. Registration Eligibility Date Time FEE April 1 – May 21 Ages 9-18 Friday, May 30 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. $10 SWEET CREATIONS: CAKE DECORATING FUN FOR KIDS Location: Recreation Center – Classroom 1 Minimum: 5 Maximum: 12 Additional Information: Youth will learn a new skill of making a frosting and the art of decorating cakes and cupcakes. You will learn the basics. All supplies are included. Water and snacks are provided. Registration Eligibility Dates Time FEE April 1 – July 2 Ages 11-18 Wednesdays 1 – 3 p.m. $25 July 9, 16, 23 SAVE THE STREAM: A WORKSHOP ON WATER CONSERVATION/RESTORATION Location: Depot Park - 250 Depot Street, Christiansburg Minimum: 5 Maximum: 15 Additional Information: Youth learn how to protect and preserve our streams and waterways! In this hands-on workshop, you will explore the importance of healthy streams and rivers to local ecosystems, wildlife and communities. Also, you will learn practical way to prevent pollution, improve water quality and restore stream habitats. This program will meet outside so please wear comfortable clothing/tennis shoes and bring a hat. Water and snacks are provided. Registration Eligibility Dates Time FEE April 1 – July 7 Ages 9-18 Monday, July 14 9 – 11 a.m. $5 CSI KIDS: UNLOCKING THE SECRETS AND SOLVING MYSTERIES Location: Recreation Center – Classroom 1 Minimum: 5 Maximum: 15 Additional Information: Step into the shoes of a real-life investigator. In this hands-on, mystery-filled experience, youth learn the basics of crime scene investigation, including how to collect evidence, analyze clues, and solve puzzles using forensic techniques. You will work with tools like magnifying glasses, fingerprint kits, blood samples (fake) and simulated crime scenes to uncover hidden secrets. Learn to sharpen your observation skills and work as a team to crack the case. It’s a fun and edu cational way to learn about science, problem-solving, and the world of crime investigation! All supplies are included. Water and snacks are provided. Registration Eligibility Dates Time FEE April 1 – July 22 Ages 9-18 Tues/Wed/Thur. 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. $25 July 29, 30, 31 TRACKS AND TRAILS: DISCOVERING WILDLIFE ON YOUR HIKE Location: Christiansburg Huckleberry Park: Hilltop Pavilion – 255 Huckleberry Park Dr. Christiansburg Minimum: 5 Maximum: 15 Additional Information: Join us for an exciting outdoor adventure where youth learn essential skills for exploring nature and deepen their appreciation for the wildlife that surrounds us! In this hands-on workshop, discover how to prepare for a safe and enjoyable hike, including packing the right gear and how to use a GPS tracker. Learn to identify wildlife tracks and signs, and then create your own track molds to take home, preserving the footprints of the wild creatures you encounter. All supplies are included. This program will meet outside so please wear comfortable clothing/tennis shoes and bring a hat. Water and snacks are provided.
