MERIT BADGE SUMMER PROGRAMS Scouting America (BSA) is a national youth (ages 11 – 17) program offering activities to promote physical fitness and citizenship. Merit badges offer co-ed youth the chance to learn new skills and a chance to understand the world. Courses are taught by a BSA Merit Badge Counselor who will supply all materials and the blue card to indicate com pletion or partiality of the requirement. Youth need not be a Scout to participate in these courses for fun learning for themselves and about BSA. COMMUNICATION – Instructor: Lisa Bass Location: Recreation Center – Classroom 1 Minimum: 3 Maximum: 8 Additional Information: The ways that we communicate help our ideas grow and relationships stay strong. Learn the many methods of communication, the etiquette and steps in getting your message clearly shared. In-class projects will include making a commercial, teaching a skill, making introductions, writing a letter to the editor and a 5-minute speech. This is an Eagle-required Merit Badge. Registration Eligibility Date Time TR/NR April 1 – May 21 Ages 11-17 Tuesday, May 27 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. $25/$35 CITIZENSHIP IN THE WORLD – Instructor: Lisa Bass Location: Recreation Center – Classroom 1 Minimum: 3 Maximum: 8 Additional Information: Discover how youth are already citizens of the world and that success as a world citizen depends on one’s willingness to understand and appreciate the value, traditions and concerns of people in other countries. This is an Ea gle-required Merit Badge. Registration Eligibility Date Time TR/NR April 1 – May 21 Ages 11 - 17 Wednesday, May 28 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. $15/$25 CITIZENSHIP IN THE NATION – Instructor: Lisa Bass Location: Recreation Center – Classroom 1 Minimum: 3 Maximum: 8 Additional Information: Learn the historical documents that outline the responsibilities of being a good citizen and find ways to explore our nation’s greatest treasures. This is an Eagle-required Merit Badge and can be completed in class after writing a letter to a federal representative. Registration Eligibility Date Time TR/NR April 1 – May 21 Ages 11 - 17 Wednesday, May 28 1 - 4 p.m. $15/$25 ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE – Instructor: Lisa Bass Location: Recreation Center – Classroom 1 Minimum: 3 Maximum: 8 Additional Information: Youth need to see their impact on the environment around them and help them to learn to live sus tainably. Learn about ecology, pollution, endangered species, invasive species, pollination while working on a project to make a positive effect on the environment. This is an Eagle-required Merit Badge.
