Grant and Scholarship Opportunities

Edward A. Anderson Scholarship: VCTM awards $2000 scholarships for up to two college students each year. Students applying for the scholarship must meet all the following criteria:

• Full - time student at a four - year Virginia College or University

Virginia resident

• Seeking a degree with either a Concentration or a Major in Mathematics

• Anticipated graduation date of Spring 2023, or Summer 2023

• Planning to teach mathematics in a Virginia School.

Ena Gross Scholarship: This scholarship provides a teacher seeking a math endorsement to teach middle or secondary mathematics or individual switching careers to teach middle or secondary mathematics financial assistance for tuition reimbursement. Two recipients are eligible each year. The recipient will be reimbursed up to $2,000 for the cost of tuition upon completion of a mathematics or mathematics education course. Karen Dee Michalowicz First Timers Grant: This grant provides funding support to: VCTM members who have NOT previously attended but wish to attend a regional or annual NCTM meeting; or any Virginia teach er (including non - members) who wishes to attend a VCTM Annual Conference or VCTM Academy for the first time. Three grants are available. One award is given for the regional or annual NCTM conference of $1000 and two awards of $400 each for the state conference or academy. VCTM William C Lowery Mathematics Educator of the Year: Each year the Virginia Council of Teach ers of Mathematics may recognize an educator on the elementary, middle, secondary, college/university, and math specialist/coach level for their outstanding work in the field of mathematics education. One educator from each of the five categories may be awarded the VCTM William C. Lowry Mathematics Educator of the Year Award and recognized in the Spring of each year at the annual VCTM conference. Flanagan Innovation in Mathematics Education Grant: This grant offers Virginia mathematics educators a one - year grant worth up to $5000. This grant is designed to support educators who wish to create a mean ingful, innovative project that enhances some aspect of the K - 12 mathematics curriculum. Professional Development Grant: This grant supports current VCTM members to receive up to $1000 to attend conferences, workshops, or to provide tuition reimbursement in math education within the year to which the recipient applies. Affiliates Grant: The grant supports and strengthens affiliate organizations of VCTM by building member ships and revenues, promoting innovative projects that help make VCTM and affiliate groups more visible to public and educational partners, and supporting the initiatives of NCTM and VCTM. For example, a new ini tiative for your affiliate could be a math contest for students or professional development for teachers provid ed by the affiliate. Mentorship or sponsorship of an affiliate is also an acceptable request for this grant. The grant amount will be up to $1500.
