Advancing Lean Leadership

Angie O’Brien & Mary Talley, City of Roanoke Explore how leading with Lean and implementing small projects builds and reinforces successful leadership techniques. Learn how to use Lean and continuous improvement methodologies to encourage and enhance employees at all levels. Angie is a certified Lean Practitioner. Mary has completed Lean 1, Lean 2 and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification. Lean Projects as an Experiential Learning Tool Natalie Cherbaka & Lean Project Teams, Virginia Tech Student teams will present real-world Lean tool applications. You’ll be introduced to experiential learning, explore Lean projects and evaluate Lean metrics and project results. A Journey of Lean in the Utility Industry Tony Miller, Appalachian Power Co. (APCo) Review APCo’s six-year journey engaging front line employees and moving the culture in a positive direction. Examples will be given of standard work developed within teams and specifics of that within the electric industry. Tony is the continuous improvement manager for APCo with over 32 years in the industry. He has experience in implementing Lean management systems. Natalie is the Collegiate Associate Professor for Virginia Tech’s Industrial & Systems Engineering.
