Westminster Presbyterian Church Centennial Books
As you may have noted, in the Presbyterian and Reformed tradition, the sanctuary is not decorated with much symbolism. The stained glass windows depict color and beauty, not images of Jesus or scenes from the Bible, and that is intentional. If there is a cross, it depicts an empty cross, after the resurrection.
I am convinced that God directed us to settle in the Bluefield area. God guides us along the path in ways which are quite beyond our understanding. He uses anything and everything to achieve His plans for us, even turning our hearts and minds to follow His course (Prov.16:9; 21:1). Moreover, He does not need our conscious cooperation to do this. Nothing can thwart His plans.
Last week, we honored the ladies with a tribute to their Sunday morning church attire. In this photograph from the early 1970s, we note that there ’ s only one woman wearing a hat. Times have changed.
The twelve downtown churches that had been established during the early 1900’ s were experiencing growing pains, and now that the average family had a car. Finding a parking spot on a Sunday morning in downtown Bluefield was indeed a challenge, even with a downtown parking building, because who wants to park in the parking building and then walk two blocks to church?

connecting Augusta Street and College Avenue, and now there could be room for parking.
