VSFA Executive Committee Meeting Minutes Meeting Date: February 10, 2018 Location: Charlottesville, VA The meeting was called to order by President Jimmy Byer at 10:03 am. Larry Logan led the group in prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call : Sandy Byer, Assistant Secretary completed the roll call of attendees and the presence of a quorum was confirmed. Approval of Minutes as Distributed : Pete Kirby reported that he has a set of notes from the previous meeting and Scott Cain had some concerns since the recording software did not work during the last meeting. Pete is asking to delay approving the meeting minutes from November 2017 until he can check his notes with Scott’s. Pete Made motion to table approval of the November minutes until the next meeting. Jeff Flippo 2 nd Approved. Additions/Deletions to Agenda : None Noted. Treasurer’s Report : Treasurer Masciola was not present at this meeting, therefore there was no report at this time. Introduction of Guests: Mr. Mike Reilly, Director of Department of Fire Programs was introduced and welcomed by President Byer. Mr. Reilly spoke on 3 things the Governor has concerns about and wanted his help on. 1. Line of Duty Death 2. Exposure issues of firefighters and cancers that have direct impact on families 3. Critical Incident Stress and how firefighters deal with tragedies they see every day Mr. Reilly also said that the Governor is very aware that 70% of the makeup of the fire service in Virginia are volunteers. He reported that he hopes to do some rearranging and reorganize of the Fire Service Board. He said they are looking to add Firefighter II online and are looking at the cost and where the money will come from. At this point Mr. Reilly asked if there were any questions and a discussion was held on many topics. Mr. Reilly spoke for approximately 45 minutes. Liz Garnett, President of the Virginia State Ladies Auxiliary was also welcomed by President Byer and stated he was glad she was able to attend the meeting. Communications/Website: Larry Gwaltney reported he has been making numerous additions to the website with the taking on Windfall – Office Depot/Office Max. 2018 Legislative information has been updated. Additional information on how to contact your legislature has been added. A link has been added to the website for the Office of EMS legislative where they are following bills that we are not. If you have anything that you would like to post on the website send it to Larry and he will post it. Larry also reported that since the last meeting Scott and I have been in touch with each other on the member registration, preregistering departments and on several other features would like to see be added to the website. They have been in touch with SiteVision and this should not be a hard process once we come together and decide on what we want.
