VSFA 132 nd Conference Business Meeting Minutes Meeting Date: August 2, 2018 Location: Hampton, VA

The meeting was called to order by President Jimmy Byer at 9:00 am. He then turned the meeting over to Dale Jamison who called upon the Hampton Honor Guard to present the colors. Dale then led the group in prayer

and Pledge of Allegiance. Welcome & Introductions: President Byer started off by introducing the Officers.

President Byer then ask for Larry Gwaltney, Executive Director to introduce Officials from the City of Hampton and Commonwealth of Virginia. Larry Gwaltney introduced Interim Fire Chief Jason Monk and he welcomed everyone to Hampton for the 132 nd Conference. Chief Monk said he started as a volunteer with Virginia Tech Rescue Squad and this changed his career path and has been in the fire service for 22 years now. Had 9 retirees this past year and 5 were Chief Officers. Lost an Assistant Chief position and was replaced with a Medic. He also said that they are the only Career/Volunteer combination with ISO I accreditation in Virginia. He said if you need anything from the city of Hampton please let them know and they would be glad to help. President Byer introduced Mr. Mike Reilly, Executive Director from the Virginia Department of Fire Programs and he is slated on the agenda to speak later. Ken Brown introduced the Maryland Delegation in the absence of Allen Brennan who is ill and unable to attend this years’ conference. He then introduced Frank Underwood and had him to come up and introduce the Delegation. Mr. Underwood said they are from the state of Maryland and he introduced their Executive Director, Kate Tomanelli who was just hired. Mr. Underwood had President Byer to stand and on behalf of the State of Maryland and their new President Rick Blair, presented President Byer with a certificate congratulating him on his 2 years of service and a bag of goodies. He also said if you need anything please let them know their door is always open. Mr. Byer presented Frank, Kate and Chuck with a VSFA Challenge coin and a gift bag with various homemade jellies, pies, peanuts etc. from the Southwestern part of Virginia. Ken also introduced Mr. Walter Robinson, who is here representing Cumberland Valley. President Byer also presented him with a gift bag and a VSFA challenge coin. President Byer introduced all the Past Presidents and had them to stand to be recognized as well as all the Executive Committeemen who are present here today. He also reported that Charlie Singleton is trying to retire, but they do not want him to because he is very good at what he does. At this time President Byer asked Ken Brown to introduce the out of state guests.
