AUXILIARY TO THE VIRGINIA STATE FIREFIGHTERS’ ASSOCIATION, INC. ANNUAL CONVENTION MEETING AUGUST 1-4, 2018 HAMPTON, VIRGINIA The Auxiliary to the Virginia State Firefighter’s Association, Inc. held their annual convention meeting in Hampton, Virginia on August 1-4, 2018. The annual business meeting was held at the Hampton Roads Convention Center on Thursday, August 2, 2018. The meeting was opened by Karen Sica. She asked the officers to retire to the back of the room. The flags were presented by Conductress Pro-Tem Karen Sica, Individual Member, and Assistant Conductress Lisa Saul, from Riner. The Conductress Pro-Tem and Assistant Conductress introduced the officers and seated them at the head table. Jr. Past President, Karen Sica presented the gavel to President Elizabeth Garnett. She wished Liz well for her last meeting as President. President Garnett called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone to Hampton. She announced that the Chaplain had cards going around for all to sign. President Garnett asked the State Mother, Margaret Miller from Bridgewater, if she had any words for the group. Mother Miller stated that it was great to see everyone and she hoped everyone had had a great summer. Conductress Pro-Tem, Karen Sica, was asked to lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Chaplain, Linda Cage, was asked to offer devotions at this time. She opened the Bible and lit candles in memory of Mother Travers, founder of our Auxiliary, and one in memory of all deceased past presidents and members. Linda read Our Two Greatest Commandments followed by Mark 12:28-31. She ended her devotions with a prayer. President Garnett announced her Convention Committees as follows: Credentials – Brianna Claxton and Robbin Griffin, Spotsylvania #1 Greetings Committee – Carol Stickley, Hose Co. #4; Gail Simpkins, Riner; Joan Dempsey, Vienna Nominating Chairperson – Carolyn Landis, Hose Co. #4 Judges – Jean Pickin, Buckroe and Karen Sica, Individual Member Tellers – Sonja Hodge, Individual Member and Terri Norton, Tappahannock Essex Pages – Sonja Hodge, Individual Member; Terri Norton, Tappahannock Essex; Katherine Sencindiver, Hose Co. #4; Terri Wright, Christiansburg Secretary, Tina Puffenbarger called the roll of Officers, Committees, and Past Presidents. President Garnett asked the chairpersons from the Ways & Means, Firefighter’s Relief, and the Scholarship Committees to come forward to receive donations during the roll call of Auxiliaries and Individual Members.
