BY-LAWS ARTICLE 1 MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Application for membership in this Association shall be accompanied by a fee of five dollars (5.00) application. Same to be forwarded to State Association Secretary, signed by the secretary of the company, department or rescue squad or its presidents or chief. Companies, departments or rescue squads making application must consist of at least ten (10) members. Any company, department or rescue squad within the Commonwealth of Virginia making application for membership subsequent to April 30, shall be credited as having paid their dues as of August 1 of the calendar year the application was submitted. Section 2. The annual dues of each Company, Department or Rescue Squad within the Commonwealth of Virginia shall be five dollars ($5.00) for each member on their books in good standing, and shall be forwarded to the State Association secretary on or before August 1st each year. In the event of non-payment of dues, the company, department or rescue squad shall be denied the privilege of representation in the annual or special meetings of this Association. Section 3. Upon the death of a member it shall be the duty of the Secretary of the Company, Department or Rescue Squad of which the deceased was a member to notify the State Association Secretary before August 1st of the current year. Section 4. Any member of this Association who may sever his connection with his Department, Company or Rescue Squad or be honorably discharged, or any member of any fire company or rescue squad within the Commonwealth of Virginia shall have the privilege of retaining his membership or becoming a member of the Virginia State Firefighter's Association as an Associate member upon the payment of annual dues which shall be $10.00. He shall be entitled to all benefits, so long as he pays his annual dues and compiles with all the laws and rules governing the Association, except, however, that said associate member shall not have the privilege of holding office, or voting in the annual meeting. Section 5. Any member of this Association who may sever his connection with his Department, Company or Rescue Squad, or who shall be suspended or expelled from his Company, Department or Rescue Squad, shall cease to be a member of the Virginia State Firefighter's Association. Provided, however, that in the event that said member has not been expelled from his Department, Company or Rescue Squad may have the privilege of applying for Associate membership as provided in Section 4 of this Article. Section 6. Any person, not a member of a Fire Company shall be permitted to hold membership in the Virginia State Firefighter's Association as a Contributing member upon application in writing to the Secretary of the Association accompanied by a fee of twenty ($20) dollars and approved by the Executive Committee. Said contributing member shall not be entitled to hold office, or vote in the business transactions of the Association. Associate or contributing members may also serve on Association Committees or Task Assignments as directed by the President. Section 7. Any member or employee of a Department, Fire Company, or Rescue Squad who responds to emergencies shall be permitted to hold membership in the Virginia State Firefighter’s Association as an individual member upon application in writing to the secretary of the Association and accompanied by the payment of annual dues which shall be Thirty-Five ($35) dollars . Temporary membership takes place upon receipt of the application and payment of the membership dues. Full membership takes effect upon approval by the Executive Committee. They shall be entitled to all benefits, so long as they pay annual dues and complies with all rules governing the Association. Said individual member shall not be entitled to hold office, or vote in the business transactions of the Association. Individual members may serve on Association Committees or Task Assignments as directed by the President. Section 8. Sustaining member-business, corporation or organization supportive of fire service. $250. A. Guidelines same as contributing member. Representative of sustaining member may serve on Association Committees or task C. Will receive certificate membership and plaque.
