recognized designation of Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) in the spring of 2003. In addition, Surratt mentored three students during the spring semester who also passed the certification test. In May 2004, Ray Wurzburger, associate professor of accounting, received the Virginia Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Outstanding Advisor of the Year award for advising the college’s PBL chapter, serving on the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)-PBL foundation board, and auditing the FBLA-PBL foundation board’s financial records for many years. When Wurzburger was a student at NRCC between 1975 to 1977, he served as student chapter treasurer and president and participated in PBL state and national competitions. John Van Hemert, systems analyst and an NRCC graduate, received the TIE award in Multi-College Technology Projects for his role in developing an online admissions application. Jonathon Surratt, webmaster and NRCC graduate, received the TIE award in Classroom Support for his work on the LearningLinks project. LearningLinks, a web portal accessed through the college’s home page, provided an up-to-date list of websites for a diverse listing of educational topics. In 2001 Dr. Ed Barnes, who served as NRCC’s president from 1991-2000, was named president emeritus of NRCC. Three faculty members received faculty emeritus status: David C. Poteet (posthumous) in 2003, Bonnie V. Wynn in 2005, and Eddie Goodson in 2008. Also in 2001, Jeananne Dixon, coordinator for the Center for Learning Disabilities, was appointed by
