Adult basic education/special services and grant-funded programs were assigned to the Division of Arts and Sciences. 2002 • James (Jim) D. Brumagin • James Thomas (Tom) Owen • Thomas J. (T. J.) Smith, Jr. Brumagin, associate professor of instrumentation technology, joined as a faculty member in 1983; Edmonds, housekeeping, in 1980; Galloway, office manager in Job Placement Services, in 1972; Lyons, instructor of mathematics, in 1984; Owen, associate professor and coordinator of job placement services, in 1978; and Smith, trades/utility senior worker, in 1989. On June 1, 2002, the college family mourned the loss of Donald (Lee) Oliver, who worked as an information technology specialist in the ITC. Oliver had been employed full time at the college for over 20 years (since 1980). To honor him, the support staff assembly had a new handicap ramp installed in the parking lot near Godbey Hall. 2003 • Ronald R. Dodson • Anne C. Paskowski • Bonnie P. Perry • B. On February 8, 2003, the college family mourned the loss of Dr. David Poteet, professor of history since 1989 and faculty advisor of the Campus Crusade for Christ student group at NRCC. Poteet was posthumously honored at the May 2003 graduation by being named faculty emeritus. 2004 • Charles (Chuck) C. Dean • Anne R. Folsom • Billy E. Friend • J. Doyle Lyons • Bettie S. Stumbo Dean, associate professor of business management and affirmative action officer, was employed as a faculty member in 1974; Folsom, assistant professor of English, also in 1974; Friend, professor of instrumentation technology and a graduate of both New River Vocational/Technical School and NRCC, in 1966; Lyons, associate professor and assistant to the president, in 1972; McMillan, Word Processing Center manager, in 1972; Scott, professor of English, in 1988; and Stumbo, buyer specialist in the Business Office, in 1979.
