YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH MCPS utilizes several strategies to increase support and awareness of mental health. Community-based mental health providers work in each school, providing a connection to therapeutic day treatment and counseling sessions through the National Counseling Group and New River Valley Community Services. The division also works toward increasing services by partnering with other mental health providers. School counselors are always available to help students. Whether a student needs assistance with self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills, or decision-making, school counselors are available to support and help students navigate concerns that may arise. A multi-faceted approach to addressing mental health concerns for students is imperative to ensuring that each student can achieve their greatest potential. Looking ahead, Christiansburg High School is the next school to receive a building renovation. This school already has upgraded athletic fields and facilities. The current building needs to be larger to accommodate the student population, provide all teachers with their own work environment, and correct modifications in multiple places to create classrooms where walls do not reach the ceiling. The new academic building will provide more classrooms to address overcrowding, improved traffic patterns for students to traverse the building easily during class changes, and a focus on allowing natural light to enter the building. The project should be complete by September 2025. Looking ahead, Christiansburg High School is the next school to receive a building renovation.
