LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

But impact is not just about outcomes. It’s also about the relationships we build, the trust we foster, and the hope we inspire. Every interaction with a partner, every success story from a client, and every milestone we achieve is a testament to the mission we walk out everyday helping children and adults living with brain injury improve the quality of their lives! While we have accomplished much, there is still more to do. Our vision for the coming year is ambitious: we aim to broaden our reach, deepen our partnerships, and drive even greater outcomes for the individuals and communities we serve. We are committed to being agile in our response to new challenges and persistent in our pursuit of long-term solutions. I am immensely grateful for your continued support—whether you are a donor, volunteer, staff member, partner, or advocate. Your contributions are the cornerstone of the impact we are able to achieve, and I look forward to working alongside you as we continue to make a difference. With deep appreciation and excitement for the future, JLJudge

JODI JUDGE Executive Director

Dear Friends, Clients, and Supporters,

As we conclude another fiscal year, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude for the progress we have made together. Our collective efforts have created lasting, measurable impact—not just in the communities we serve, but across every facet of our work. Impact is at the heart of everything we do. It’s the measure of the difference we make, the legacy we leave, and the inspiration we offer to others. This year, we focused more than ever on ensuring that our programs create real, lasting change. Whether it's through service, advocacy, or innovation, we have seen firsthand how even the smallest actions can ripple outward, touching more lives than we ever imagined.

HOW WE IMPACT

Goals Achieved: Case Management - Case managers meet with survivors of brain injury, and family, if available, in their homes to help identify and reach goals in their journey to recovery. Specialist Services (CSSS) provides intensive, one-on-one training on issues related to activities of daily living, increased independence, and community integration. All of our services are free and available to survivors of brain injury of all ages, regardless of income, within our service area: which is all of Southwest Virginia, and parts of Central and Southside Virginia. This includes survivors of TBI, stroke, cancer, and other acquired brain injuries. Community Connection (CLiC) is a telehealth program that brings survivors of brain injury together through user-friendly assistive technology and the internet to form small individual learning groups that provide support, education, social, and cognitive skill building. INDIVIDUAL IMPACTS Pictured to the right during an interview with Brain Injury Solutions’ staff, Steven shares a little about his experience: “ After my brain injuries I faced a number of challenges they were wide ranging, the bottom line is I felt lost, I didn’t feel valuable and I felt worthless and I had no idea what to do to fix that situation. STEVEN

Once I became a client of Brain Injury Solutions, they helped guide me through the steps that I could take to help claw my way back into some sense of normalcy. My case manager, Bridget, helped me set goals, she held me accountable. She was compassionate and really helped me move from a situation where I felt like I was aimlessly wandering to a place where I’m moving toward goals and feeling good about myself again.”

TERRY

Terry, pictured to the left in the lift chair his case manager, Jessica, was able to find funding for. Living alone and struggling with mobility, Terry often faced frequent falls, sometimes resulting in injuries. His old furniture was too low, making it hard for him to get up safely. A big thanks goes to Jessica who was able to get him this amazing lift chair that not only helps him stand, but also comes with massage and heat functions for those days when his back is aching. It's truly a game-changer for him! Jessica had the honor of delivering and setting it up, and he was so moved. He shared how well he sleeps in it now, and how much he loves his new chair. It’s moments like these that remind us of why we do what we do!

AMARA

Amara, pictured to the right, has so much support from her family! They would like Amara to “have services that will benefit her as she continues to grow up.” Her case managers, Nikki and Jessica, have worked with the family on the following goals: education, therapy, independent living, waiver supports, medical coordination, brain injury education, and advocacy. Brain Injury Solutions was able to research funding options for Amara to have an adaptive chair and new equipment that is portable.

Nikki and the family have worked with the following community partners to help support Amara: local schools, Easterseals, waiver providers, CSB, medical and therapy providers, early intervention services, and DSS. Nikki also advocates for Amara at her Individualized Education Plan meetings to help support her in the school setting.

JAMISON

Mae, a case manager working with Jamison, recently found that his insurance would no longer cover his physical therapy. His caregivers wanted him to continue with positive physical activity as they could see the improvements. Fortunately, Mae was able to help him apply for and receive funding from Commonwealth Community Trust for an elliptical machine and a walking device!

He is pictured here using the new walking device with his elliptical in the background.

MILITARY APPRECIATION & BRAIN INJURY AWARENESS NIGHT AT SALEM RED SOX

In August of 2023, we celebrated our military, raised awareness, and officially changed our name from Brain Injury Services of SWVA to Brain Injury Solutions with over 175 supporters, clients, staff, and volunteers!

LEWISGALE’S JOGGIN’ FOR YOUR NOGGIN In March, we had several hundred people sign up to support survivors of brain injury through participating in a 5k or 1 mile fun. Through the support of participants and sponsors, we were able to raise over $7,000 for survivors of brain injury!

WINTER WISHES

Winter Wishes' brings hope during the holiday season to survivors of brain injuries by providing a needed gift. For some that means a gift card to Walmart and for others it's a needed item like a new set of pots and pans or a blanket. In 2023, we reached our goal of $3,000 and were able to provide gifts to 56 survivors of brain injury! The gifts included household items for a newly housed pregnant survivor, a practice drum set, compression socks for a survivor who often misses appointments due to swelling in their legs, a journal and pen set, a tablet so a survivor can participate in online support groups and other trainings, and many more!
