To The Citizens of Christiansburg

Dear Friends and Neighbors: It’s that colorful time of year again when the children have returned to school and the leaves begin to change, providing spectacular scenery across the Blue RidgeMountains. The cool morning breezes blow in a vast array of recreational opportunities across the New River Valley as the excitement of fall returns, which is the perfect time to enjoy all the Town of Christiansburg has to offer! The Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department exists to promote and implement leisure programs and services that enhance the quality of life for all ages. In partnership with the community, we strive to deliver programming in a personal, effective and successful manner. We serve you, the residents of Christiansburg and our visiting neighbors, and look forward to continuing to grow and build our special community. As you read through the brochure, you will find many recreational opportunities available for your entire family and plenty of ways to enjoy each other’s company outside partaking in our new downtown special events, playing at one of our nine Town parks or witnessing the sights and sounds of nature’s beauty while walking along the Huckleberry Trail. As the weather turns cooler, you may prefer to learn how to meet your recreational needs in an indoor setting. Look no further than the Christiansburg Recreation Center. You can develop a healthy lifestyle by taking advantage of our various educational classes and health screenings. Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle so be sure to check out our cardiovascular and weight rooms or take a nice stroll on the 1/8 mile indoor track. If you are over the age of 50, there are many Senior Center activities and events year-round to enjoy. Please see our Senior Center Calendar and Parks and Recreation Department brochure for a complete listing of all of our programming and activities. This fall is full of exciting events. Please join us for the Huckleberry Hustle 5K “Getting Scary on the Huckleberry” Race on October 26 and be sure to stick around for the Truck or Treat to explore fire trucks, dump trucks and other large equipment while gathering treats! Don’t forget to wear your most creative costume. And in December, come be a part of our Annual Christmas Parade and Christmas on the Market where you can get an early sighting of Santa as he takes a break from his workshop to ride a Fire Engine in downtown Christiansburg. I am excited to be spending this fall session here with you, in the Town of Christiansburg. I look forward to maintaining the recreational opportunities currently in place, while also looking at future ways we can better serve you and enhance your experiences. Our recreational community is quickly becoming known as “The ONLY Place to Play.” Best wishes to each of you for a cool and colorful fall season. Sincerely yours, Brad Epperley Brad Epperley Director of Parks and Recreation
