ATHLETIC SPECIAL EVENTS

 YOUTH BASEBALL/SOFTBALL OPENING DAY

This event is being done to celebrate America’s National Pastime, along with signal the beginning of the youth baseball/softball season. There will be a parade of teams, and guest speaker, among other fun activities. Each Christiansburg team will also play its first regular season game on this date. Registration Dates Eligibility Date Time Location Fees Day of event All ages April 13 9 a.m. – TBA Harkrader Sports Complex FREE PITCH, HIT AND RUN COMPETITION This event is part of the first Annual Opening Day Festival. Event is sponsored by Major League Baseball and Scotts Turf. Boys and girls ages 7–14 are eligible. Event consists of six attempts to pitch a ball at a target for points, three swings off of a tee for distance and accuracy, and a timed run from second base to home plate. Winners advance to a sectional competition with the opportunity to move on to a major league game and possibly the all-star game. Exact schedule will be released as we get closer to the event. Age groups will have set times picked for their respective competitions. Registration Eligibility Date Time Location Fees Day of event Ages 7 – 14 April 13 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Harkrader Sports Complex FREE RADFORD UNIVERSITY BASEBALL CLINIC This camp is being instructed by the Radford University Baseball Team. They will be teaching you the fundamentals of baseball. This should be quality instruction from a quality NCAA Division I program. Please bring any equipment that you may need. Registration Dates Eligibility Date Time Location Fees Apr. 1 – May 3 Ages 5 – 13 May 8 5:30 p.m. Harkrader Sports Complex FREE CHS VOLLEYBALL CAMP This camp is being instructed by Lisa Dalton and the staff of the CHS Volleyball program. They will be teaching the fundamen- tals of volleyball. Topics that will be discussed and practiced include serving, bumping, setting, spiking, and basic gameplay. This would be a great way to meet the coaches and players of the current CHS program. It will give the program a chance to work with their future stars. Registration Dates Eligibility Date Time Location Fees May 27 − July 5 Ages 9 − 12 July 8 − July 11 5 − 7 p.m. Christiansburg Recreation Center $30.00 Additional Information: Teen candidates will be selected to attend the Teen Fire Academy. Participants are subject to background screening and approval. SHOOT N STRAIGHT ARCHERY CLINIC This new camp will be instructed by the Triangle Archery Club. Some of the members of this club will be on hand to teach the fundamentals of archery. They will go over aspects such as: range/shooting safety, proper equipment, shooting form, and shooting etiquette. Necessary equipment will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own if you have it. Come check out this new outdoor program. Registration Dates Eligibility Date Time Location Fees June 3 – July 19 Ages 7 – 13 July 22 − 25 10 a.m. − noon Triangle Archery Club $30.00 CHS FOOTBALL CAMP The CHS Football Camp will be instructed by Alex Wilkens, as well as players and coaches for this years CHS Football teams. As part of the camp, a t-shirt, snacks, and drinks are provided.
