Walking the Walk

LeadingAge Virginia Advocacy Award Karen Nelson, Associate Director of Development for the Warm Hearth Foundation, was awarded the 2019 LeadingAge Virginia Advocacy Award. The award recognizes Karen for her exceptional achievement in advocacy initiatives that have advanced the nonprofit mission of Warm Hearth Village and expanded opportunities for its residents. Karen has worked tirelessly on behalf of residents in need at Warm Hearth Village for nearly 20 years.

Warm Hearth Village prides itself on its strong ties and community partnerships. Employees are active not only in Village life, but also as volunteers and participants in the bustling life of our surrounding community. They are encouraged and empowered to use their skills and positions to be meaningful contributors at Warm Hearth Village and beyond in the greater community. Support from the community enables the Foundation to carry out its mission, and we strive to be responsible members of the community to help others say the same. Each year Warm Hearth Village employees participate in the Foundation’s Partners in Giving campaign to benefit the Warm Hearth Foundation and the United Way of the New River Valley. Contributions from fundraising events and payroll deductions totaled over $19,388.50 in 2019.
