A True Disciple
BURNING HEARTS
Two disciples walking along the road to Emmaus were discussing the recent news of Christ's crucifixion and death that had taken place just a few days earlier. Their lack of understanding of the prophecies about Him had left them doubting that He was indeed the redeemer of Israel. Concealing his identity, Christ appeared and began walking with them. He asked them what they were discussing, and they told Him the things that had happened concerning Christ. In response, He opened the Scriptures and, beginning with Moses and the Prophets, proclaimed to them the truth about Himself. Their eyes were opened, and it caused them to exclaim, “ Did not our hearts burn within us … while He opened the Scriptures ” (Lu 24:32)? Just as Christ drew the two disciples into an intimate moment with Him to hear the Word of Truth, the Spirit of God likewise draws us to hear and know the truth through the Scriptures. Our hearts should burn, igniting within us a passion to follow Him into all the world and make disciples of all nations.
