I attended Bluefield College after high school graduation. Thought I wanted to be a teacher but soon changed majors. I graduated in 1978 with an Associates Degree in Secretarial Administration. I worked at Rish Equipment Company on Airport Road In the summers and during school, worked Saturdays and school breaks. I went to Concord College for one year … I wanted to try Business Administration, but found out that wasn ’ t for me. In July , 1979 I started working at WVVA Television. Started as a Receptionist then soon went to the Billing Department. This is where I met my husband. He had just given his two week notice and was going to work in Tazewell at a mining business that built and installed products in the mines. We married October of 1980 and I moved to Bluefield, Virginia. We bought a mobile home and moved it onto his family ’ s land. We decided to try our luck at tent camping. I believe a monsoon hit four out of the five times we camped. This was not for me!! In 1985, he pursued a job at Texas Instruments in Johnson City, Tennessee. We sold our mobile home, found an apartment in Unicoi, Tennessee, and moved in July of 1985. I got a job with a temporary service and was sent to Nuclear Fuel Services in Erwin, Tennessee. They were on strike at the time, and we had to ride buses to cross the picket lines. The buses had bars on the windows. That was an interesting time!! That job lasted a year. October of 1986, we bought a home in Johnson City, Tennessee. It was a ranch style and was a fixer - upper. November of 1986, I started working at Johnson City Schools Central Office in the Special Education/Attendance Office. July, 1992 transferred to Johnson City Transit as Special Education Transportation Supervisor. The City of Johnson City owns and operates the City Buses, along with the school buses. My husband and I could not have children, although we tried without success. God knew what He was doing, and we tried not to question why. We worked on the house, and he travelled some with business, and I went with him several times. In 1998, we decided to buy a very old Midas motor home (28 foot) and try our luck at camping that way . A little more successful than tent camping! We enjoyed camping and camped with friends at various campgrounds.
