About The Teams Emory & Henry comes into today’s game with a 6-1 record and a 4-1 mark in SAC contests. The Wasps already wrapped up their first winning season in the NCAA Division II era of the program, taking down Anderson University by a 34-3 score on the road last week. E&H, which is receiving votes in the AFCA poll for a second week in a row, looks to move into a tie atop the Mountain Division standings with a win today. Carson-Newman is a perfect 7-0 (5-0 SAC) and is ranked No. 17 in NCAA Division II by the AFCA. The Eagles handled the University of Virginia’s College at Wise by a 35-23 score at home last Saturday. The Rivalry Emory & Henry and Carson-Newman are meeting for the 46th time in program history today. E&H holds the slimmest of leads in the series at 22-21-2. C-N has won the previous nine meetings between the two squads dating back to 1969 and 14 of the last 15. The Wasps’ best stretch in the series ran from 1948 through 1961 when they picked up 12 wins with just one loss and one tie. About Carson-Newman Carson-Newman is under the leadership of first-year Head Coach Ashley Ingram. He holds a 7-0 career record in his first campaign as a head coach. Ingram arrived at Mossy Creek after 16 years on staff at the United States Naval Academy where he served as assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. A 1997 graduate of the University of North Alabama, Ingram won three NCAA Division II Championships as a player. Zane Whitson is the Eagles’ quarterback and has thrown for six touchdowns and 350 yards on 26-for-48 passing. Tre Luttrell is 8-for 11 through the air for 245 yards and three scores as the backup. C-N’s stable of running backs is led by Jayden Sullins with 121 rushes for 697 yards and six touchdowns while Don Bradley has scored three times with 305 yards. Cam Ferguson is third on the team in rushing yardage at 296 for three touchdowns while Whitson and Tyler Curtis have also found paydirt three times. Jeremiah Carroll has caught a team-high 18 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns while Cade Meeks adds 11 receptions for 184 yards and a trio of scores. Ferguson has two receiving touchdowns with 116 yards as Jeron Newson has two catches for two scores.

Carson-Newman was selected eighth in the poll and third in the division. Lenoir-Rhyne University, last year’s champion and National Semifinalist, is favored to repeat its title. On the defensive side of the ball, Christian Hicks leads the way with 49 tackles including 8.5 tackles for loss. Mekhi Brown has made 37 stops and recovered a fumble while Jeterryous Jones and Jacorey Long have 33 and 32 tackles, respectively. Champ Baker has 11 passes defended to pace the Eagles while Major Williams and Kendall Williams have one interception each. About Emory & Henry Emory & Henry is led by Interim Head Coach Quintin Hunter, James Madison University class of 2013. Hunter is in the third season of his second stint with the Wasps and eighth overall, having previously coached at E&H from 2014-18. He holds a 6-1 record as head coach. Quarterback Charles Mutter, III is 84-for-157 through the air for 1,314 yards and 16 touchdowns. Cole Lambert is 22-for-42 for 314 yards and a pair of scores. Jordan Jackson has rushed for 719 yards and four touchdowns while Mutter is the Wasps’ second-leading runner at 164 yards and a touchdown. Cam Abshire has 613 receiving yards on 30 catches for eight touchdowns with Cam Peoples pulling in 33 passes for 468 yards and five scores. Jakari Mozelle has 177 yards on 11 receptions while Nate Tinnell has notched three scores on six catches for 66 yards. Defensively, Kaleb Lundy has made 44 tackles and broken up five passes while Addison Knicely has 41 tackles, three interceptions and four additional passes defended. Jacob Robinson has also made 41 stops and has four interceptions while Elijah Harper has 41 tackles including a team-leading 9.5 tackles for loss. Shawn Collins has 21 tackles, four interceptions, a fumble recovery, seven break-ups and one blocked kick with Marc Harris adding a pair of fumble recoveries to 34 tackles. Trace Butcher leads the team in scoring with seven made field goals (7-for-10) and 28 extra-points (28-of-30). Notes of Interest
