Why Do I? By Sidney E. Smith I prefer to write at night. I prefer to walk barefoot, even on gravel. I prefer tea to coffee. I prefer to watch the news and prepare myself for what is to come.

I prefer the smell of rain after a drought. I prefer the sound of a fan while I sleep. I prefer an organized clutter. I prefer friendly strangers. I prefer dogs to cats. I prefer to be independently dependent.

I prefer to challenge traditions. I prefer Emma to Mrs. Dalloway. I prefer to teach math rather than learn it. I prefer Dr. Pepper to Coca-Cola. I prefer to praise the Lord through song. I prefer to criticize myself, before others get the chance to. I prefer to be comfortable. I prefer to love hard and love often. I prefer to be nothing less than brutally honest with myself and others. I prefer to surround myself with positivity. I prefer to wiggle my toes in dry sand.
