Carrington J. Hawthorne Carrington Hawthorne is a May 2020 graduate of Bluefield College. She dou- ble majored in English with a concentration in Writing and Theatre. She lives and writes in Bluefield, VA. Her writing includes poetry, short stories, and plays. Conquest of Cupid By Carrington J. Hawthorne Cupid’s damage is not what it used to be. The mythical god of love has been reduced to a cartoon character portrayed on cheap Valentine’s Day cards and in video games. I must admit that I have fallen victim to his heart bombs and flutters, A product of our modern society? And have you lost your blindfold? Then again, could we go into battle blind? We see those with the perfect builds and think only of fault in our own skin and in that of our partners and our opponents. It is the ultimate battleground. Perhaps, we are blind in the lane of love. Too caught up in the conquest to understand what love really is. Cupid lines up his shot just right. Just we have grown too stupid to Smite. passing them by without ever slowing down. Oh, son of Venus and Mars, what is this fallacy?
Maybe we can emerge from the arena victorious, but what will be the outcome of Cupid’s downfall?
