PERSONAL TECHNOLOGY DEVICES (PTD) (JFC-R 06/17) A. Definition: any privately owned technology device that includes, but is not limited to the following: laptops, cell phones, smart phones, eReaders, iPads, iPods, tablet devices, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), or other current or emerging devices that can be used for word processing, wireless or wired Internet access, recording of images/sound, email, etc. Note: Not all PTDs are capable of connecting to the Floyd County Public School wireless network. Please see the Floyd County High School web page for more information. B. Elementary students: Electronic communication devices are not allowed to be used on school grounds from the moment a student arrives on School Board property until dismissal of the school day. Exceptions to the use of communication devices would be approval by school administration or its designees for educational learning activities and/or emergencies. Students may not use cellular phones inside any school before and during school hours up to dismissal. When riding to and from after school activities or field trips on school buses, or during approved downtime activities, students may use cellular phones or other electronic devices only with the permission of the attending coach, faculty sponsor, bus driver, or school chaperone : this includes supervised non-teaching activities or duties like lunchtime and classroom down-time. C. High School students: High School students may possess personal technology devices on school property including school buses, provided that the device must be “off” during class time, unless being used as an approved part of the instructional process. High school students may use a PTD during non-instructional times to include: before school, after school, during their lunch period, and transition times provided the phone remains in a “silent” mode and does not become disruptive. D. At no time may any device be used with an unfiltered connection to the internet. Improper use of these devices may result in loss of this privilege at the principal’s discretion. E. The Floyd County School Division is not liable for devices brought to school or school activities. F. Students are not allowed to use electronic devices to photograph or record unapproved activities, personnel, and/or students. Disposition: Personal Technology Devices (PTD)
