The Historic EarleTheatre in Downtown Mount Airy, built in 1937, is reminiscent of classic movie houses with an Art Deco-style design. It was built in 1938 and was chosen as a site for the premiere of “Gone with the Wind” simultaneously with the grand opening of the film in Atlanta, Georgia. Inside is the Old-Time Music Heritage Hall, with exhibits on Surry County old-time and blue- grass musicians.
