“If you’re looking for a sick person, you’ve come to the wrong place!” With that propitious greeting, I was introduced to Miss Lula. As a Spiritual Director for Hospice, I was privileged over the next several months to learn about living and learn about dying according to this wise lady. Who would have ever suspected the treasure of knowledge I would discover under the tin roof of the rambling old house? Recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, she never dwelled on her situation but rather on the precepts of a life well lived. Miss Lula spoke simply and honestly about the profound challenges and also the opportunities of the human experience. Her words and counsel made a significant difference in my life and I am better for it.
