ABINGDON MUSTER GROUNDS - $20 Wed, Feb 19, Abingdon, VA Come learn about the American Revolutionary War Battle of Kings Mountain and life in the back country during colonial times. Take a hike on the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail and learn about the Overmountain Men, America's humble heroes who helped assure independence for the US. Lunch is on your own at Luke’s Café, a funky little diner in Abingdon. Registration deadline is Feb 12. Level I, Course 6761 Location Pick-up Return F&M 8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. MCGC 9:00 a.m 4:30 p.m. Countryside Park features paved trails, larger-than-life wind chimes, and other musical features. The park has fitness equipment to exercise your legs, arms, and abs, as well as a Neos electronic gaming system. Lunch is on your own following the hike at K & W Cafeteria. HALE LAKE TRAIL - $22 Fri, Apr 17, Elk Creek, VA Go on a springtime adventure in the Mount Rogers National Recreation area at Hale Lake. The loop trail rambles over tree roots, clings to a marsh thicket, and passes over bridges every few hundred feet offering great views of the lake. A picnic lunch will be provided. Registration deadline is April 10. Level II, Course 6763 Location Pick-up Return F&M 8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. MCGC 9:00 a.m 4:30 p.m. ELK GARDEN - $22 Wed, May 20, Troutdale, VA Here is an exciting oportunity to hike a portion of the Appalachian Trail in the Jefferson National Forest at Elk Garden. This 2.3 mile out and back trail passes through open meadows and hardwood forest, while providing stunning views of Grayson Highlands State Park. Bring your camera, because the famous wild ponies graze along this section of the trail. A picnic lunch will be provided. Registration deadline is May 12.
