POLICE AGAINST SENIOR SCAMS - P.A.S.S. Montgomery County and Christiansburg Law Enforcement are partnering to educate area senior citizens about the current scams in and around the New River Valley that specifically target senior citizens through phone, internet, and the mail. The goal of the program is to educate senior citizens on how to recognize when a scam is taking place, and encourage seniors to notify local law enforcement when they get any communication or request they feel may be a scam. COUNCIL The Christiansburg/Montgomery TRIAD S.A.L.T. (Senior’s and Law Enforcement Working Together) Council works on various projects to benefit older adults in the community. The council meets every third Tuesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. at the Christiansburg Recreation Center. The meetings are open to all who wish to attend. SHRED-A-THON Tue, Apr 21, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., Christiansburg Recreation Center Shredding sensitive documents is one way to reduce your risk of becoming an identity theft victim. • Walk-ups are not allowed, this is a drive thru event. • Do not bring stiff metal, plastic bags, or other items that will jam the shredder. • Bring your documents in a box or tote, limit of three per vehicle. LOCK BOX PROGRAM This program is available for older adults and provides emergency first responders a way to quickly gain access into the home of participants during an emergency.
