I grew up in a sweet church. I learned the stories of the Bible and how to apply them to my life. I learned about the goodness of Jesus and that I, too, should strive to be good. What I did not know was the power of Holy Scripture – that the word of God is the word of God, wholly complete and alive, a living thing that penetrates soul and spirit and knows the heart. I know now that the Holy Spirit is who makes scripture understandable, and I know now that I can ’ t be good. No one can; only God is good … So I don ’ t have to focus on my lack of goodness; I don ’ t have to focus on me at all.

Under her leadership and vision, a new choir emerged, the Silver Chimes.

A new sound emerged in the church sanctuary, the sound of handbells.

“ His Song ” led us in worship, and performed at many weddings, and made a recording that has been worn out by more than a few cassette tape players.

Under the direction of Julie Hurley and Susan Allen, girls groups like “ Heaven Song, ” and later “ Out of the Blue ” and “ Treble Makers ” enabled teenage girls to have a meaningful outlet for music and ministry.

For many years, former members would combine voices with current members to sing one of their signature numbers, “ For Unto Us/Joy, Joy, Joy. ”

“ Aunt Flo ’ s Diner ” was a hit back in 2005.

Jerry Goodson fondly recalls that his years playing with Westminster Brass and the long - term relationships that developed there. He says that “ Westminster Brass was about more than music. We were a small group. While we strove to play our best, we realized that it wasn ’ t about us. We prayed for each other, and we prayed that our music would honor God and lead people to worshipful hearts. ”
