· Begins to recognize a few upper or lower case letters (if taught) (CLLD2.4a)

· Begins to recognize more upper, and lower case letters if taught (CLLD2.4b) · Identifies sounds and recognizes letters associated with beginning of first name and last name (CLLD2.4c) · Begins to connect alphabet letters and corresponding sounds (e.g., connecting letters and sounds of common letters/words) (CLLD2.4d) · Can often write first name from memory (CLLD2.4e)

· For many, with instructional support, matches the sound with the corresponding letter (CLLD2.4f) · For many, with instructional support, matches the letter with the corresponding sound (CLLD2.4g) · Recognizes many upper and lower case letters (CLLD2.4h) · Will use a combination of letters and symbols to represent words (CLLD2.4i)
