40 th Virginia Certified Horticulturist Anniversary! Originally, the certification program was named the “Vir- ginia Certified Nurseryman”. The Certified Nursery Program was, and still is, de- signed to give recognition to members, and employees of members of the association, for their horticulture-re- lated knowledge . The program was intended primarily for people in the retail segment of our industry, but is also open to those in nursery production, and other service portions of our industry including landscape design, installation and landscape/turf maintenance or management. Certified Nursery Program Review Courses: The review courses are just that - for review of basic horticul- tural knowledge that someone should already possess from prior schooling and/or experience. The review courses are not designed as "college" courses to teach information that is new to a person. The review classes were originally organized and run by the regional nursery associations as a service to their members and as a revenue stream. The person taking and passing the exam is the person certified, not their employer, but the VNLA Certified logo and advertis- ing can only be used if the Certified person’s employer is a VNLA member. No VNLA certification items can be used by
