She participated in numerous regional, national, and international art exhibitions.
Flaming Music of Freedom The central image and accent in the composition is a falcon - a symbol of the eternal desire for freedom inherent in the Ukrainian people. For many centuries, this freedom-loving spirit was forged in the fire of uprisings, public resistance, and national liberation wars. That’s why the space of the painting is engulfed in a symbolic flame. The aspirations of the people of Ukraine for freedom, liberty, and self-determination are also manifested in art, in particular in such an avant-garde and experimental musical genre as art rock, which combines protest notes with the search for characteristic means of expression and bright stylistics. The dynamics of the composition combine the traditional colors of Ukrainian folk art: black, red, and white. Black, the main color of the guitar, represents resistance and determination; red, the color of flame, is a passion for one’s work and to achieve a goal; and white is the color of hope and strength. The additional and important symbol in this work is the geometric star, which embodies the search for harmony.

VALERIIA ZAVYLENKOVA Poppy Flower
This painting was created in the city of Sumy. It represents several important symbols of Ukraine. Poppy is a wildflower that grows in the fields and near Ukrainian houses. According to folk belief, the wild field poppy grows where Ukrainian soldiers bowed their heads in the struggle for their native land, most likely because of the flower’s resemblance to bloodstains on the clean canvas of a field. The painting recreates the image of a flower from a wild field that tells the story of its people through music.

DARIA YEROMKA From 2005 to 2011, she studied at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts majoring in Monumental Painting. In 2011, she became a lecturer at this department, and started PhD diploma in 2016. Since 2007, she has participated in street art festivals in Kharkiv under the patronage of the Kharkiv Municipal Gallery and on her own initiative. Since 2008, she has been actively traveling around Europe and the world, studying classical and contemporary art. Since 2012, she began to be interested in the direction of Public Art, which gave the basis for scientific and practical activities in this field. An important impetus for this was the desire to realize ideas outside of the box. You Are The Salt of the Earth This diptych is a symbol of the Ukrainian struggle for the native land, consecrated to the path of freedom from evil by the deaths of thousands of citizens. Now for many people, it is pain and anger, hatred, and a complete lack of understanding of how it will all end. But in order to win, it is important to preserve Love, to preserve the memory and the desire to live. Our land is our bread, soaked in sadness and joy - this is the salt of our native land called Ukraine.

Soul Strings Ukrainian music plays a huge role in our lives. In the imagination of people, music and musical instruments played an important role as talismans during spells and prayers of magical and protective significance. In music, people saw protection from evil spirits, bad dreams, and the evil eyes. People also had special magical tunes to ensure soil and livestock fertility. The bandura, a Ukrainian folk music instrument, is the soul of the country’s people. It inspires and calms, entertains and gives solemnity to important moments, tunes into the right mood, and expresses something that worries us. The painting “Strings of the Soul” inspires a person, gives wings to the soul, and promotes imagination. Looking at it, you want to fly in the peaceful sky, which all Ukrainians lack so much now. As Martin Luther said, “My heart, which is so full to overflowing, has often been solaced and refreshed by music when sick and weary.” I, Oleksandra Ishchenko, was born on 5 March 2003 in the city of Balakliia, Kharkiv region. In 2009, I entered the first grade of Balakliya Secondary School, graduating in 2020. In 2017, I studied at the Balakliya Music School at the Department of Art for several years. In 2020, I entered the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts, Department of Environment Design, where I am currently studying.

Flowers with eyes symbolize our inner awakening and openness to discovering new depths. The voluminous piece of embroidery symbolizes our culture, our heritage, and our roots. The golden sun shines above, sending its rays to the flowers. Its shine enriches energy and vitality.

SOFIIA KROKHMAL
My name is Sofia, and I am a native of Kharkiv.
I started my art career in a Ukrainian literature class. It was then that I started to redraw flowers in the classroom in my notebook.
Later I went to study at an art studio. After school, in 2020, entered the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts.
Rays of Freedom Ukrainian Art Rock is about the sound of art. The rhythmic sounds of music turn into impulsive flashes of colors on the canvas, emerging from the bend of a musical instrument. The string elements are a collective image of Ukrainian ethnicity. The central abstract composition, on the other hand, becomes an eclecticism of this movement and avant-garde. The color palette of the painting reflects the main colors of the Ukrainian flag. Yellow in Ukrainian culture symbolizes the energy of the sun, strength, and indestructibility. Blue, on the other hand, is the color of heavenly space, freedom, and selflessness. The bright accent of the compositional center is a yellow flash on a blue background, which emphasizes the combination of freedom and indestructibility in Ukrainian art. From 2018 to 2021, I participated in Kharkiv exhibitions. One of them, “Green Paintbrush” was dedicated to an urban eco project. My works can be found in different cities of Ukraine, as well as in the UAE, Switzerland, and Germany.

NATALIIA KRYVOBOK I was born in Kharkiv in 2004. Since childhood, I grew up in love with my city. I loved to learn… In 2011, I enrolled at Kharkiv Gymnasium, from which I graduated with a gold medal. In addition to my studies, I worked as a scientist and wrote and defended my research papers at the National Academy of Sciences. At the same time, I was studying at the School of Art and Design, which in just two years was able to give me the necessary skills and knowledge, and helped me understand myself and my creativity. Studying painting, drawing and composition, creativity and modern aspects contributed to my dream of enrolling at the Kharkiv State Academy of Fine Arts. The preparation went on as usual, but the war destroyed my plans and dreams. However, for a while, despite the difficult conditions of admissions and feelings of depression, I was able to fulfill my dream of studying graphic design. I have now completed my first year and feel more confident in my academic prospects than ever. Even though I studied online because of the war, I still managed to enjoy the process. Now, in my free time, I paint portraits in the style of realism, create compositions with Kharkiv landscapes, and improve my digital skills. I have many dreams of a happy creative future. The main component that features in my dreams is my native city Kharkiv. It’s reinforced, strong, and brave. I want to continue to work for the benefit of my hometown and country, develop its cultural front, and turn my homeland into a leading country in the world. We will survive. Victory is coming soon. Glory to Ukraine!

The Birth of the Genre
The birth of something new is always a surprising and exciting process, whether it is the birth of a living creature from a test tube or a new work of art from under the hand of a master. The birth of a genre is a special thing. A genre implies giving birth to not just one work of art, or even several, but a whole universe of different masterpieces of images, melodies, instruments, and emotions. Inspiration is the main element of the birth of something new. Through the colors and rhythm of a painting, you can trace how an inspired thought originates in the heart and how an idea gives meaning to everything in the world.
VICTORIA MOROKHOVETS
Musical Rhythm of Ukraine
This painting is based on the theme of art-rock - it is characterized by melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic experiments. This painting has abstraction: melody and rhythmicity in the painting are shown as a melody spreads throughout the space with different circles of bright and lovely rays and it depicts a fantastic atmosphere. Also in the picture, there are very delicate and bright colors that smoothly transition as they interact with each other and also with the colors of Ukraine.

The Life The idea was to combine the old and the new, the natural and the man-made. Inspired by Petrykivka painting and cubism as representatives of the art of different times, I began to create. The sunflowers are a symbol of nature as well as what they represented since ancient times. Freedom Square located in Kharkiv downtown is a a symbol of the new, modern, and human - its buildings are the representatives of constructivism, a new style compared to Petrykivka painting. Cubism is also used in how the buildings are painted. A fine texture was created and covered with thick paint to create natural gaps, which is a symbol of the imperfection of life in general. in painting. For another two years, I kept studying academic drawings and paintings in order to enroll in a competitive university. In 2022, after successfully passing the creative competition with 191 points (out of 200), I entered the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts, majoring in Graphic Design, where I continue to study. I, Valeria Nikiforova, started to be interested in art from a very young age. At the age of 5, I asked to join a children‘s club where I would learn to draw. One year after I started my first grade, I joined the art school. In 2020, I graduated from the Children’s Art School in Izium, having studied there for 9 years. I was fond of many types of art, but my artistic orientation in painting came first, so I decided to continue receiving education

TAISIIA SEMCHUK From an early age, I loved to draw and my parents, noticing this, supported my aspiration. So I studied at the art school at Kharkiv Lyceum of Arts from 2006 to 2017. During my studies, I expressed myself not only in drawings but also in dancing and music classes. For several years, I was a member of the school music ensemble, which won first place at the international competitions. But my main occupation was still art. I received my first gold medal at the age of 9 at the VII Open Biennale of Children’s Creativity “From ages 5 to 10" At the age of 14, I took part in the Bright Colors of Germany children’s drawing competition and won the nomination for originality. In 2015, I took part in the international book graphics competition “American Fiction: Dreams and Reality” and won 2nd place. Creativity has accompanied me all my life, so I definitely wanted to connect my future profession with it. After much deliberation, I decided to study architecture. In 2017, I entered the Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2021 and a master’s degree at the end of 2022 in Architecture and Urban Planning. During my studies at the university, unfortunately, I had less time for free creativity, but it was no less interesting to complete my assignments. That’s how many works of academic drawings and paintings, as well as architectural collages, appeared. But despite these challenges, the desire to create never faded. The last year of my studies was difficult due to the outbreak of a full-scale war in the country, so as soon as I had some free time after graduation, I started painting. It is not for nothing that they say that creativity is a therapy. Therefore, from 2022-2023, I created many different works: from pencil sketches to watercolor paintings.

Folk Rhythms
One of the main characteristics of art rock as a musical style is the addition of experimental rhythms - the reference to the beginnings of music composition and the interweaving of long structures with several themes. One of the basic and historical symbols of Ukrainian culture is embroidery. Over many decades people have developed the traditions, principles, and rules for creating vyshyvankas (embroidered shirts in Ukrainian costumes). Each region of Ukraine has its own peculiarities of embroidered patterns. Thus, the Kharkiv region where I live is distinguished by natural motifs: Flowers, berries, and the tree of life. This painting combines the main characteristics of art rock and Ukrainian culture, harmoniously intertwined according to the rules of composition as an artistic medium. The classical rhythm of embroidery is a strip of patterns that runs along the circumference of the sleeve, bending around the arm. If you give the embroidery an experimental rhythm and other signs of art rock, you get a group of repeating natural elements (in this case, rosary flowers, lilies, a bunch of grapes and their leaves, an ear of wheat and parts of the branches of the tree of life) arranged in a spiral, gradually decreasing in size from the center.

Musical Stork “Musical Stork” was created in the city of Dnipro. It embodies a lot of symbols and signs. This painting is a Ukrainian symbol of well being, love, and hope. Musical notes are shown on the wings, and when they are opened, the painting sparkles with new colors. The idea is to combine Ukrainian symbolism and music - to show how different Ukrainian culture is. This is a modern integration of words into a painting because it is not necessary to speak in order to convey the meaning of what was said. Different colors are used; however, the main ones are blue and yellow. These colors are our national colors - they are shown as a symbol of invincibility. “I decided to take part in the RESTORE UKRAINE’s exhibitions because I value the place where I was born and wanted to reflect in my work what every Ukrainian feels now. No matter what, art says more than words spoken aloud. Therefore, in my work, music and symbolism reflect everything that cannot be silenced.” Anastasia Shakhmatova was born in Mariupol in 2001. She studied at an art school for 9 years from 2010 to 2019. After, she entered the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. She completed her third year of study as an interior and landscape designer.

Perhaps the most ancient writing of Ukraine is embroidery. Its symbols have quite powerful energy. According to Ukrainian tradition, the square in embroidery is one of the symbols of the earth. The idea of this figure is to delimit space. The colors and dynamics of this painting highlight Ukraine’s fight against darkness and the expansion of the country’s resistance.

Art Field Ukrainian Art Rock is a more ethnic music due to the inclusion of experimental influences of national instruments. The work is made in a decorative style and is conditionally divided into two parts. The left part depicts a symbolic ancient Ukrainian folk stringed instrument - the bandura. A melody in the form of a series of notes flows from its strings like a river. The bandura is accompanied by a keyboard instrument, which plays a more important role in art rock. Accordingly, the right part of the work is dedicated to nature, depicting the ancient symbols and amulets of Ukraine: the sun, the earth, and the cross - protectors from misfortune. It is from this symbolic division of the work the name “Art Field” emerged. As for the color palette of the ornamental and decorative composition, it is expressive and contrasting, reflecting the characteristic colors of Ukrainian culture. I, Anna Kotliarenko, was born on 19 July 2003 in Lubny, Poltava region, Ukraine. In 2008, I moved to Kharkiv region. In 2009, I entered the first grade of the lyceum in the small village and graduated in 2020. From 2012 to 2016, I took private lessons in painting and drawing. In 2016, I joined at the Kharkiv’s Children’s Art School. From 2019 to 2020, I attended preparatory courses for admission to the Kharkiv State Academy of Arts and Design. In 2020, in enrolled in the Academy (specialization in environmental design), where I am still a student.

Flowers of War
In order to emphasize how current events affect the change in the cultural and subjective worldview of Ukrainians, the artist used elements of folk Ukrainian painting in this work. Petrykivka painting is a Ukrainian decorative and ornamental folk painting style that originated in the Dnipro Oblast in the village of Petrykivka, where the name comes from. Some items with patterns in the style of Petrykivka painting have been preserved since the 18th century. The origin of the Petrykivka painting is associated with the Cossacks and the settlement of the Dnipro region by people from the Poltava region. However, it is not known where and when exactly the traditions formed the basis for the development of this painting style. Petrykiv painting is not only folk art that preserves the traditions of decorating Ukrainian homes, but also modern painting that develops and acquires new features, which is noticeable in the work “Flowers of War” Yuliia integrated volumetric elements with a more realistic style into the conventionally flat visual language of the painting - textured earth and the imitation of water with resin. Separately, the fruits of flowers - grenades - stand out in the composition. The artist herself interprets this decision as a metaphor for military and technological motives sprouting into Ukrainian folk culture. On one hand, it is due to the need for Ukrainians to defend themselves, and on the other hand, it is due to the technological advancement of the Ukrainian army, thanks to all the countries that helped.

VARVARA EVGLEVSKA I am a scenographer, a scenic artist.
From a very young age, I watched my father and grandfather working with a film director and saw how the shows in the theater were created. My grandfather and grandmother were both producers, and they currently manage their own contemporary theater, so my family has a long-lasting history connected to the arts. My main areas of interest are the artistic conception of the stage, scenography, and theater plays - the perspectives of the directors, artists, and the combined efforts of the entire cast. My mother is trained in both performing arts and interior & exterior design. Since I was a little child, she has ingrained in me a love of painting. In 2020-21, I worked on the creation of urban sculptures for the Kharkiv Fantasy Park, and an exhibition based on my design is still on display there. For this, I received a gift from Kharkiv Mayor I. Terekhov, which bears my signature, as well as the project winner’s certificate. In 2021, I enrolled in the scenography department at Kharkiv Higher Art College. In general, I enjoy going to the theater, and prior to the war in Ukraine, I frequented nearly all of the city’s theaters. Drawing for the theater is my forte, and I hope to have a vision of what a modern theater should look like.

War and Peace
The painting “War and Peace” was made under the influence of the war in Ukraine in 2014, so I tried to glue the colored plates of the devastated world to the painting. The painting depicts the abyss and darkness into which the world falls when it is exhausted by war. On the one hand, mutilated human images sink to the bottom, while the souls of those who died in the war fly out of the abyss. I call on the world to stop the war!

The Sun of the Unbreakable One of the main symbols of the Ukrainian culture is the Sun. It is described as human life, the light of the soul, and the fertility of the earth. The sun was used not only in art but also in folk traditions and songs. In addition, this symbol is used as the basis of the Ukrainian coat of arms as a sign of an independent, strong, and bright state. I, Zviahintseva Veronika, was born on 3 October 2002 in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. In 2009, I entered the first grade of the educational complex in Zaporizhzhia and graduated in 2020. In 2018, I started studying at the Children’s Music School, Art Department, and graduated with honors in 2020. Next, in 2020, I enrolled in the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts (specializing in environmental design), where I am still a student.
This painting combines not only the symbols of the Ukrainian people but also the power of the supernatural as space.
The dynamics and color scheme of the painting emphasize the symbolic meaning, namely the faith of the Ukrainian people in the imminent victory and hope for a brighter future. The imitation of a cosmic explosion symbolizes the struggle of the people and the release of the Ukrainian soul to the whole universe.
