Economic Context and Strategic Alignment The budget is shaped by moderate local economic growth, the continuing influence of Virginia Tech on the regional economy, and a national inflation environment that still affects labor, supplies, utilities, and construction. Meals tax, lodging tax, and sales tax growth point to continued economic activity, while steady intergovernmental and property tax revenues provide a stable base for municipal operations. At the same time, the Town remains attentive to the sensitivity of some revenue sources to external economic conditions and is planning accordingly.
