NARRATIVE
The Blacksburg Police Department's mission is to provide exceptional service and protection through leadership and partnership with the community. Our vision is to serve as a dynamic, progressive, and professional organization dedicated to maintaining community partnerships that promote a high quality of life for the Town's diverse population. The Department is committed to treating all people with dignity, fairness, and respect, protecting their rights, and providing equal protection under the law.
FY 2026 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Developed and standardized a comprehensive Field Training Officer (FTO) manual to ensure consistency across the training program and among all FTOs. Implemented Quartermaster software to improve inventory tracking, accountability, and cost management across uniforms, equipment, and vehicles. The Department initiated the first of four reviews for its 11th CALEA accreditation, achieving full compliance with all 227 standards reviewed. Conducted monthly PowerDMS training. Purchased, upgraded, and implemented cameras for the downtown camera system. Revamped and improved the department’s hiring and selection process. Hosted Coffee with a Cop to promote community engagement. Hosted a Senior Breakfast to strengthen relationships with senior residents. Participated in New River Community College High School Law Enforcement Career Day. Represented the department at the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Job Fair. Hosted a multi-agency active shooter tabletop exercise to enhance coordinated response among law enforcement, fire, EMS, schools, hospitals, and dispatch supervisors. Successfully obtained $338,385 in grant awards for the department. Expand operational capacity, improve supervision, and ensure effective deployment of sworn and civilian personnel. Implement a strategic approach to operationalize crime data by employing Stratified Policing, strengthening analytical capacity, providing training, and workforce development. Improve critical incident response and management by implementing a tiered incident command training program for all personnel and conducting a department-wide critical incident management exercise.
