The Red Flannel Rag

I wish I was single again.

I got me a wife, oh then, oh then

I got me a wife, oh then

I got me a wife, the pride of my life.

I wish I was single again.

She beat me, she banged me, oh then, oh then

She beat me, she banged me, oh then

She beat me, she banged me, she swore

that she’d hang me.

I wish I was single again.

My wife she died, oh then, oh then

My wife she died, oh then

My wife she died, I laughed ‘til I cried.

To think I was single again.

I got me another, oh then, oh then

I got me another, oh then

I got me another, she was worse than the other.

I wish I was single again.” (5)

Shortly after I was born, Mom and Dad rented a small, four-room, yellow stucco

house from “Pop” May and his wife, Minnie, neighbors of Aunt Goldie and Uncle Rob.

It was a long house with a cement slab for a front porch. In front of the slab was a

parking space for a car.
