The Just Don't Get It!
IT has a very clear mandate: Protect the organization from cyber threats, balance competing priorities from every corner of the business, and deliver solutions across all functions, often with limited resources. In many organizations, they are seen as a barrier to getting technology solutions implemented—especially shop floor data systems. Marketing and R&D are creating new products with features customers want, but those designs may or may not run smoothly on existing equipment. A clever design on paper can translate into endless production issues. It's in these moments that the familiar refrain shows up: "They just don't get it." But here's the truth: they really do get it. They're faithfully executing the job they've been asked to do. Planning is protecting turns and working capital. Quality is guarding the customer. Sourcing is driving cost out. Sales is doing exactly what they're measured on—winning revenue. IT is protecting the company from disaster. Marketing and R&D are innovating for the future.
