FUND SPOTLIGHT The Wings Fund

David and Marilyn Hutchins established the Wings Fund in 2007 to provide scholarships to students with significant financial need. David was an award winning teacher and professor at Virginia Tech for 31 years in the Counselor Education Program as well as an accomplished painter. He passed away in 2010. Marilyn is a licensed professional counselor in Blacksburg who has worked both for Virginia Tech and in private practice. She has also been a volunteer with the CFNRV’s Scholarship Committee for 20 years. David and Marilyn’s lifelong commitment to education and to students with diverse life experiences led them to prioritize awarding scholarships to non-traditional students who are returning to college after years in the workforce. Since awarding its first scholarship in 2008, the Wings Fund has supported 21 New River Valley students.
