11 YEARS AS BANK PARTNERS 16 YEARS AS FINANCIAL SUPPORTERS

The CFNRV’S relationship with First Bank & Trust Company (FB&T) began in 2012 as a bank partner and expanded in 2021 when FB&T also became one of the five investment management teams working to grow the CFNRV’s endowed assets. FB&T has been a longtime corporate sponsor, supporting GiveLocalNRV, and events like the Annual Scholarship Awards and the Celebration of Giving for donors and friends. In addition to FB&T’s role as an institutional partner, the impact of Senior Vice President Jim McAlister cannot be overstated. Jim was first introduced to the CFNRV when a scholarship was established for his longtime friend A. Phillip Meadows in 2001. Since then, Jim McAlister speaks at the CFNRV’s annual meeting in 2017.

Jim has been a tireless volunteer and advocate, speaking regularly to current and prospective donors about the ripple effect of a gift to the CFNRV. In 2020, Jim and his wife Sue established the McAlister Family Fund to support New River Valley organizations providing healthcare and food assistance. The fund was established in memory of Jim’s mother, Peggy McAlister of Wytheville, as well as Sue’s mother, Mattie Hall of Dublin, both of whom through their professions and church activities served countless families and individuals in our community. The CFNRV is grateful to Jim, Sue, and everyone at FB&T for their support.

In 2021, the YMCA at Virginia Tech won a GiveLocalNRV giving day grant sponsored by FB&T.
