Arpillera By Noel Saunders

At a time when social protest was prohibited, Chilean women formed seemingly innocuous sewing workshops where they made tapestries which exposed abuses by their military dictatorship. This photograph shows a tapestry Noel made for a class assignment in Latin American History and Culture. Several other countries have adaptations of the arpillera, and this tapestry is an American arpillera which exposes various forms of bullying.
