The Arrow Fall 2020
OHA Environmental Literacy Initiative Oak Hill Academy is a historic college preparatory, coeducational boarding school for students in grades 8-12. The school campus is located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains adjacent to the New River, one of the oldest rivers on earth, and very near Mt. Rogers, the highest point in Virginia. Being located in one of the most biologically and ecologically diverse areas in the country offers Oak Hill students an advantageous and unique opportunity to grow in their knowledge and understanding of the natural environment around them. Accordingly, the Academy has created an Environmental Literacy Initiative built around four key-concepts including: academic study, field investigation, outdoor experience, and service. Through partnerships with several regional organizations, including the New River Conservancy, the Blue Ridge Discovery Center, and the New River Wildlife and Conservation Club, participants will grow in their appreciation of the natural world, and be better prepared to one day contribute to efforts of stewardship on a greater scale. The program was officially introduced at a ceremony on campus September 25, 2020 and we are looking forward to great things ahead.
