Information Students Cannot See Students may NOT see parents’ financial statements or records and letters of recommendation for which the student waived the right to view. Students may NOT see the personal information of any other student or any information on a student who has a non-disclosure requeston record. Access to Student Data Departments within the College requesting other than directory information will be given such information if they have a legitimate educational interest. College officials have a legitimate educational interest if it is necessary or desirable for them to have access in order to carryout their official duties and/or to implement the policies ofBluefieldCollege, or if it is in the educational interest of the student in question for such officials to have the information. Persons receiving this information (or directory information prior to its publication) are responsible for protecting the confidentiality of the students involved. They are not permitted to re-release this data to persons, other than college officials with a legitimate educational interest, without thepriorwritten consent ofthestudents involved.

Instances in which student data (even for those records with restrictions and non- disclosure requests) are released

• to specific internal groupswith legitimate educational interest (signedwaiver by studentnotrequired) • to specificexternalgroupswith legitimate educational interest(signedwaiverby studentmaybe required) • to other agencies not specified above (signedwaiver required) • to satisfy a subpoena or judicial order (signed waiver not required)

ACADEMIC CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE (ACE) Office: RishHall, Lower Level (ext. 4606)

The Academic Center for Excellence exists to further Bluefield College’s aim of providing a liberalartseducation thatwilldevelop thewholeperson.ThisCenterencouragesstudentsto takeresponsibilityforacademic choicesandachievements and tounderstand that academic planning and development occur not only during undergraduate years, but also throughout a lifetime. Tutoring services, disability services and the testing center are housed inACE as well as the offices of the assistant director of ACE and the Director of Academic Support Services. Tutoring in all academic areas is coordinated through ACE, including our face-to-face and onlinewritingtutoring.Tutoringappointmentswillbearranged forthosestudentsinneedof tutoring in any discipline as tutors are available. TheDirectorofAcademicSupportworks throughACE to assist thosestudentsonacademic probationtohelpthemachievetheiracademicgoals.Studentsplacedonacademicprobation are required to meet with the director while they are working to improve their scholastic performance. Academic accommodations are also available for those students with documented disabilities. If any student desires assistance, he or shemust contact the assistant director of the ACE center at ACE@bluefield.edu.
