Student Handbook 2018-19

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS All students are required to maintain a full-day schedule of classes except when:

 A senior is enrolled in the Career Interpretation II (Internship) program supervised by a cooperative program teacher, in which students participate in a supervised work-based learning program in a pre-determined occupation, OR  A waiver of full-day enrollment is granted by the superintendent of schools based on conditions of such waivers as defined by the Carroll County School Board. The student must apply for such waiver by submitting the Individualized Program of Study Application in the Appendix outlining one of the following criteria:

• Enrollment in post-secondary education opportunities. Work release programs are strongly discouraged and do not provide students with credit toward graduation. In the rare instance that a work release program may be acceptable, a student must meet all of the following criteria:

• Passed all Standards of Learning tests OR be enrolled in the class preparing to take the Standards of Learning test.

TRANSFER STUDENTS Students transferring into Carroll County High School must meet all requirements for a diploma as prescribed by the State Board of Education and the Carroll County School Board. Each student’s prior record will be evaluated to determine the number and content of additional credits required for graduation. Students transferring after the beginning of their senior or 12 th grade year shall be given every opportunity to earn a Standard or Advanced Studies Diploma. If it is not possible for the student to meet the requirements for a diploma, arrangements may be made for the student’s previous school to award the diploma. GRADING SYSTEM It is the expectation of the Carroll county School Board that K-12 instructional staff adhere to common grading practices as may be modified at the discretion of the board in order to promote consistency and predictability in grading. Student grades during each grading period are to be calculated by teacher’s choice of: total points earned / total points possible; weighted by categories (homework, quizzes, tests, projects, etc.); or grade averaging (sum of grades / total number of grades). The Carroll County School Board has adopted the following grading system: Standard Weighted Scale Grade Value Grade Value* A =100 - 94 (4) (5) B = 93 - 87 (3) (4) C = 86 - 76 (2) (3) D = 75 - 70 (1) (2) F = 69 and below (0) (0) INC = Student has incomplete assignments WD = Student has withdrawn from course without grade penalty AUD= Student taking course for material review with no grade or credit NC = Non-Credited course
