Spire Spring 2017

the last word

Greetings Alumni and Friends:

My name is Hal Keene, and I am a proud 1984 graduate of Bluefield College. As an alumnus, I feel both honored and blessed to have been called to come home to BC as your director of planned giving and major gifts. I am a native of nearby Tazewell, Virginia, where I still reside with my wife, Becky, and son Braeden. I have been privileged to be involved in many community organizations over the years. Youth league coaching, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, and scouting have provided many wonderful memories.

In fact, I currently serve as scoutmaster of Tazewell Boy Scouts Troop 93 and as finance chairman for the Mountain Dominion District of Boy Scouts of America. I believe it is important for us to give our time and resources back to others when we can. We all have an opportunity and responsibility as Christians to help make the world a better place. Growing up in the beautiful mountains of Virginia, I became an avid outdoorsman. I enjoy golfing, hunting, fishing, and working on the family farm. I am so thankful for the countless hours my late father spent with me in the great outdoors passing down his skills, wisdom, and life lessons. I aspire to continue that legacy with my son as well as all of my “scout sons.” Professionally, I have spent my entire career in the banking, insurance, and financial services industries. I look forward to putting that experience to work for you and the college by showing our community, alumni and friends how we can all work together to reach our goals. Bluefield College has had a long and storied history of providing students with academic excellence. We all take pride in the strong moral and ethical Christian values on which this institution was established. Nearly 100 years since our founding in 1922, we remain steadfastly committed to passing those timeless values on to future generations. As we prepare for the next 100 years at Bluefield College, it is clear we must move forward together. Alumni, faculty, staff, students, and the community can achieve great things working together in harmony. As we reflect on and give thanks to those who gave along the way to provide an opportunity for us to succeed, may we begin to understand that now is our time to give in order to help others succeed. There are many planned giving options available, and I encourage you to visit the Bluefield College web site at bluefield.edu/giving or contact me anytime by email at vkeene@bluefield.edu or by phone at 276-326-4209 to arrange a private consultation for any questions you may have. I look forward to working with you to discover how you can help others succeed at Bluefield College for the next 100 years!

Sincerely, Hal Keene Hal Keene Director of Planned Giving and Major Gifts
