IN MEMORY

John Richard Turner , of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on December 10, 2021. He entered the Navy in 1955 and was commissioned and designated a Naval Aviator in 1956. After John’s active duty, he continued his service in the Naval Air Reserve, flying fixed winged aircraft until his retirement, at the rank of Captain, in 1980. He attended Bluefield University and received his BS at Virginia Tech. Thomas Jefferson McGlothlin, Jr. , of Simpsonville, KY formerly of Richlands, VA passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021. Thomas graduated from Richlands High School. He also graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a BA Theological Studies, the University of Louisville with a MBA, Carson Newman University with a BS in Accounting, and from Bluefield University with a A.S. in Business Administration/Accounting. Thomas was the former Senior Vice President of Institutional Administration at The Southern Theological Seminary. He also served in the United States Marine Corps from the years 1956-1960, ending his career as a Sergeant. Ted Moore Forrest , of Poquoson, Virginia, passed away on September 3, 2021. Forrest retired as an Accountant from the Department of the Army Indianapolis, IN, with a total of 30 years for the Federal Government. He also worked with the Wycliffe Bible Translators, Orlando, FL. He served in several volunteer positions with the Orange County School system and the South Orlando Baptist Church. Ted and his wife, April, were married 57 years. They happily met in Bluefield College, Bluefield, Virginia, in 1961. 1962 1960

Jack Coleman Wilson , of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on October 9, 2021. After Jack served his time in the Navy, he earned his master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Georgia Tech and then joined a startup company called IBM. After his career at IBM, he assisted his wife Mary in a successful real estate career in Northern Virginia.

William Richard Light Jr. (Bill) , of Southern Pines, North Carolina, and Castine, Maine, passed away on October 28, 2021. He graduated from Randolph Macon Academy and completed his higher education in engineering at the University of Virginia. Following the University of Virginia, he was stationed at Fort Monmouth NJ, as an officer in the Army Signal Corps, Electronics Command. Bill continued his career in the private industry at Bell Labs in NJ and DEC (Digital Equipment Co.) in MA where Bill’s work included development and design of digital control and processing systems. Joyce Gregory Buchanan , 91, formerly of Bluefield, VA, passed peacefully, Friday July 8, 2022 at Princeton Healthcare Center. She attended Bluefield University and obtained her B.S in Education from Concord College. She taught her entire career at Tazewell High School teaching biology, chemistry and other life sciences. Upon retirement from teaching she became very active in the Tazewell Soil and Water Conservation District holding the positions of District Director, Associate Director and most recently Director Emeritus. She was a dedicated teacher, volunteer and conservationist. She was instrumental in the Bluefield, Virginia recycling program and received numerous awards for conservation and education programs implemented in Tazewell County. She was a very active member of Virginia Avenue Methodist Church and enjoyed decorating for Sunday worship and other events at the church. Lemuel Edgar Whitlock , of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on February 17, 2022. After he graduated from Bassett High School he began his secondary education at Bluefield University in Virginia. From there he continued his education at the University of Richmond where he graduated with a BA in history. Betty Bailey Hanks , of Campbell County, Virginia, passed away on September 7, 2021. Betty received an associate degree in Liberal Arts at Bluefield University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business from Lynchburg College. She had a successful career with Nationwide Insurance in Lynchburg, Virginia. Margaret Newcomb Leonard , of Radford, Virginia, passed away on Monday, March 28th, 2022. Margaret spent much of her life in the New River Valley and was proud to be from many families who had an impact on the local history. She attended Bluefield University and completed her bachelor’s degree at the Women’s Division of Virginia Polytech Institute. She also helped establish the learning center at Purdue University. 1950 1955

Joseph Christopher Terembes Sr. , of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away on October 5, 2021. He was a graduate of Bluefield University and James Madison University. Joseph was a retired federal employee of the Social Security Administration.

1995

Paul Gregory Musick , of Lebanon, Virginia, passed away on December 27, 2021. Paul was a 1990 graduate of Lebanon High School and a 1995 graduate of Bluefield University with degrees in Business Management and Industrial Engineering. He was also a member of Green Valley Baptist Church in Lebanon. Paul was employed by W-L Construction Company for around 25 years and was Vice President of Estimating. Joshua Paul Bishop , of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away on August 2, 2021. Josh graduated from Graham High School and Bluefield University. He was a history major and continued his graduate education at High Point University. He was part of Ridgewood Baptist Church in Roanoke, First Baptist Church and Parkview Church in Bluefield; and Hampton Height Baptist Church in Eden, North Carolina. He was employed at Salem United States Post Office and he also worked at Kroger at Ridgewood Farms in Salem. 2007

Ross E. Duncan , of Ashland County, Ohio, passed away on June 17, 2021. He graduated from Ohio University and George Washington University. He was employed in many capacities at George Washington University, Ashland College, and Bluefield University. In late 2018 he taught online courses at Bluefield University. He also worked in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Zimbabwe in various related education fields.
