The BC School of Education held its second Goodness and Light Alumni Award event, which was established in 2017 to honor the former School of Education Dean Dr. Donna Watson (’80). Dr. Watson always challenged her students to “spread goodness and light” in their roles as teachers. The winner of the 2018 Goodness and Light Award was Mr. Anthony Kidd (’08), an assistant principal at Riverlawn Elementary School in Fairlawn, Virginia. Saturday evening was filled with fun as BC Rams fans gathered at Mitchell Stadium for the annual Homecoming Tailgate Challenge, where the Ram Fam group took home the coveted championship banner at halftime of the game. Their tailgate won for the best atmosphere, school spirit, and delicious tailgate food. The BC Rams football team took the field and came up just short in a 35-41 nail- biter against the University of Pikeville. Despite the loss, quarterback Cason Whitt (’18) led an air-attack on The Bears when he completed 19-of-29 passes for 327 yards and three touchdowns. Halftime of the football game featured the crowning of the 2018 Homecoming Queen, King, and Court. Mary Blake Avery (’19), of Newport News, Virginia, was crowned Queen, and Evan Abbey (’18), of Bluefield, West Virginia, was crowned King. Homecoming concluded on Sunday with Worship Service with Highlands Fellowship in Harman Chapel followed by lunch in Shott Hall.
