With the war ending and the armistice signed it was felt the evil genie had been put back in the bottle forever. However, this was not to be and once again in 1939 Germany’s military might reared its heinous head. For the time peace had been attained and the troops were headed home. Dad’s company returned to Newport News , Virginia on the U.S.S. Walter A. Luckenbach. Once he was mustered out of the U.S. Army he returned home to his family on Kimberling to ponder his future.
