Return to the Land

Pearl, developed insulin dependent diabetes that would plague her adult life. Late in life diabetic retinopathy caused blindness but this did not daunt her spirit. The last time I saw her was at my parents’ house in Bland and she remained cheerful in spite of her handicap. As usual, she was complementary of me and what things I had accomplished. Edgar and Pearl are buried in the Garden of the Last Supper section of Highland Memory Garden in Dublin, Virginia. Margie Lee Thompson, their daughter, inherited her father’s astuteness and her mother’s beauty and humor. Margie is credited with providing stories of her relationship with our grandparents, John Harvey and Minnie Catherine Miller. Margie Lee married Ernest Wilson Thompson and they had two children. Their son, Michael became an attorney in South Carolina. Their youngest child was daughter Patricia Ann . Margie’s husba nd suffered from diabetes and died in 1972. Margie remains a widow and lives in Summerville, South Carolina near her son.
