David Oliver Wright

Special attention is due David Oliver Wright. Grandmother, Minnie Catherine Wright Miller, was the daughter of David Oliver and Martha Morehead Wright. My father, David Stafford Miller , was named for his grandfather and I was named for my father so in reality I also share my name with my paternal great-grandfather. Our middle name, Stafford, was chosen from David O. Wright’s mother’s maiden name. David Oliver Wright’s ancestry is detailed below.

David Oliver Wright

As a young man Joseph Wright i mmigrated to Ireland from Scotland. Joseph’s great granddaughter, Eliza Susan Wright (David Oliver ’s sister), wrote an account on March 17, 1901 of Joseph’s exploits as a young military man. When im migrating to Ireland from Scotland he traveled with a man named Paul. Both Joseph and Paul became soldiers in King William III ’s army and fought courageously in the Battle of the Boyne River in 1690. Paul fell in battle and was considered dead and left on the battlefield. When it came time to bury the dead Paul was placed in the grave trench. A soldier called out to Joseph and said, “Wright, your comrade is not dead.” Joseph offered water and c omfort to Paul who soon revived. Paul later became a permanent citizen of the Emerald Isle. King William III’s army defeated the exiled James II in the Battle of the Boyne, a protestant victory. Later, Joseph was to marry Sarah Lendrum. They had five children named Humphrey, James, Sallie, Francis, and Joseph. Both Joseph and Sarah are buried in Ireland.
