The third son of Charles and Anna Miller was my great-grandfather Lorenzo John Miller who was born on June 7, 1828 and died on July 17, 1896. A separate section will be devoted to Lorenzo John Miller (See chapter Lorenzo John Miller).

He was wounded at Flat Top Mountain in Mercer County, West Virginia. On July 2, 1864 he married Nancy Jane Hamilton in Bland County. Reverend Lorenzo John Miller, his brother, performed the ceremony. Their home was on the north side of Big Walker Mountain where they raised three children: George E. was born April 15, 1864, married Ella Hoge, and died on June 15, 1933; Charles Winton was born on September 29, 1865 and died on December 31, 1867; and, Malissa Rose was born on January 17, 1869, married Samuel Price Newberry on August 26, 1886, and died on April 30, 1940.
